Spring Orientation TODAY

12 Jan

Every fall and spring and summer MU has new student orientations to welcome new students and introduce them to resources that will be available to them over the course of their studies.

As the Student Government President I have the great honor of speaking during these orientations and I have to say I love it. Every time I speak to an orientation group I start reminiscing about my freshman year and all of the excitement that came along with it.

I will be speaking today at 10am and I have my speech already prepared. I love speaking with new and eager students because that was me at one point and now I’m counting down the days until graduation.

Time really does fly so to all the freshman students out there enjoy every moment of it because it won’t last forever.

Model Yashia Shelton

Saturday February 26, 2011 MU’s African Caribbean Student Association with the Latino Student Association and Black Student Alliance put on a beautiful fashion show.

I was lucky enough to have been the Backstage specialist (which everyone knows gets the best seat in the house). The huslte¬†and bustle of backstage for fashion shows gives me such an adrenaline rush… I LOVE IT, with wardrobe malfuctions and faulty zippers what else could you want? I was also blessed to have an amazing group of ladies work as dressers and hostesses for the show on my backstage team.

I’m freezing!

19 Jan

My initial feeling when I returned to Arlington, VA was, “I AM FREEZING!”. I was ill equipped for the weather, arriving at Reagan Int’l in DC with jeans, short sleeve top, MU cardigan, and red flats. I had to wrap myself up with the blankets from the airlines because I was so cold!

After my airport/cancelled flights fiasco I was just happy to finally be somewhere outside of the airport. I love to travel but the process of actually traveling is quite annoying.

I am now in my second week of school and of being back in the USA and I must say its still a bit awkward and weird.

The first week was like I wasn’t all here. In truth probably because my body was here but my mind was split between Jordan AND Panama, but alas I have become settled and now all is well.

The “shock” they tell you about reentry wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Its just awkward when you start to crave something from a specific place like ‘SHAWERMA’ (the best snack in the world) or pick up the phone to call someone and realize that they are now continents away from you.

I spoke to my host mom in Jordan and I almost teared up. I still can’t fully believe that I’m not in Jordan but I can accept it. I miss it so much and I cannot wait until my next visit.

But, now that I am back at MU I’ve just jumped right in where I left off which I think is the best part because if I had nothing to do I would just sit and wallow in my memories abroad and just be sad.

One of the best parts of being back are people who say, “so how was it”.

See, what they don’t realize is that they have just given me permission to rant and rave endlessly about my adventures which I love. I hope more people go to Jordan and countries in the Middle East because I really did have a blast and could not have imagined my semester anywhere else.

Anywho: plans for the day include two classes later in the evening, (COM 310 Presentational Communication and AA 361 Survey of Fashion) both of which are 3 hour classes, then an Alumni Association Board dinner. Compared to the rest of the week today is a no brainer.

Next week I’ll be starting my internship with Dollhouse Magazine!

Last five cents: I’m excited to be back at Marymount. I didn’t realize how much I missed people. I had an amazing time abroad and now its time to get to work because the faster this semester is over the sooner I will be a SENIOR!!!

Have a beautiful day all and you will be hearing from me soon.

Spring time is here!!!

23 Mar

Cherry Blossoms

I’m not even sure if there are enough words in the English language to describe how happy I am that the weather is turning around!

The cold thing was getting old and let’s be honest snow is not my friend at all and now that its getting warmer I can do so much more. For example now I can go into DC a bit more and just walk around and look for ancient treasure maps and secret codes and not need warming pads in my pocket or need to be wrapped in three scarves and long johns. I’m actually trying to make my way into DC tomorrow after I’m done tutoring to see this band play that one of my friends have been raving about for a few days. Mind you, I’ve never heard of them but from what she says they seem alright, plus I haven’t been to hear a live band play in just about forever. The bands name is ‘Little Dragon’ <<

But hey, what’s life without a little variety? =)

So, continuing on my rant about how amazing the spring time is…

Do you ever notice how refreshing spring tends to be? Maybe that’s just me but literally when spring comes around people want to clean and organize; its almost revitalizing in a way. New flowers, new air, new everything; its great.

AND SPRINGFEST is almost here!!! April 16th and I am so so excited. I mean come on its a luau theme, that’s just screaming ‘good time’. =)

Then, once the spring is officially over SUMMER STARTS and oh boy do I have plans for summer. Granted those plans include summer classes on campus but when I’m not in class oh I will be having a BLAST trust me and all right before its time for me to head to JORDAN in the fall!
