CARNIVAL!

D.C. CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL, INC., presents its 19th Annual DC CARNIVAL™ Extravaganza on Saturday June 25, 2011 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Caribbean Style Mardi Gras Parade with costumed masqueraders representing the Caribbean, Latin America and the Diaspora will transform Georgia Avenue into a “Caribbean Bourbon Street” with the sights and sounds of the Caribbean. This year’s Parade begins on Kansas at Georgia Avenue, NW and ends at Barry Place, NW across from the Howard University Campus leading to the Festival. The Carnival Festival happens simultaneously with the Parade on Saturday June 25 from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 PM at the Howard Center Parking facility on Georgia Avenue at Bryant Street, NW. The venue will be transformed into a “Tropical Arena” with international foods, crafts and live performances from local and international artists. (Festival Admission: $10.00 – Seniors & Children under 12 years FREE)

As a contestant in the Miss Caribbean Metro pageant I have the pleasure of being in the parade alongside the beautiful women that are representing countries such as Trinidad, Jamaica, Haiti, Guyana, and more. Although I was looking forward to playing mass this summer I am thankful for the opportunity to go through the parade as a pageant contestant!

Next year I hope I can go to Trinidad for carnival. I’ve always wanted to do it but I feel like next year will finally be the year. I don’t know exactly what it is about carnival but it just makes you feel… weightless. Once the music starts and people start dancing and moving every which way, nothing seems to matter anymore. All of your problems go away, at least for those moments, and everything is just RIGHT. Too bad we can’t have carnival every day, huh.

=)

Come out to see me! I’ll be the one with the GIANT PANAMA FLAG!!!
